New Grandson and Whimsy Stamps

The DT at Whimsy Stamps used the theme of Let's Get Punchy for this weeks challenge. Of course, with the birth of a new grandson I had the perfect reason to make a card. Is there ever not a perfect reason to make on though?

Here is a pic of John Melvin born on Friday, 10/09/09, weighing in at 7 lbs, 7 oz. and 19 1/2".

I made this card using the giraffe at Whimsy Stamps along with some dp from s.e.i. called playday.
I used my Cricut New Arrival cart for the cut outs and also used a MS punch on the side. I colored the giraffe with my copics to match the paper. Here is a close up.

Sugar and Spice or Frogs and Snails

What are little girls made of? Sugar and spice and everything nice.

What are little boys made of? Frogs and snails and puppy dog tails.

Over at Whimsy Stamps we were asked to make something for a boy or a girl as our DT project.

My youngest grandson recently turned five. Here in Missouri in the late summer we have turtles all over the place. One was brought out to the house while he was here so he is continually asking me about the turtle. Whimsy stamps has Whimsy turtle so thought I would make him a card using the turtle.

I used a template called the Hinged card that I found here. There are a lot of templates here if you like different style cards.


I used some dp from my stash and as usual I have no idea who made it. It's probably a year old at least so it probably isn't made any longer. I cut out a large 5 from my Cricut Storybook cart and put it on the center. Inside the hinged flap I put Whimsy Turtle.


Don't you just love this turtle? He is so cute and so fun to color. You can find him here along with the other stamps available at Whimsy. I used my Copics to color him. The background is several different colors of yellows to try and achieve the look of the sun being behind him. After several shades I achieved the look I wanted.

The inside of the card is rather plain but didn't want to take away from my grandson looking at the turtle so left it this way intentionally.

BTW - after making this card he decided that he wanted to make one too but it needed to be like grandma's. Well, since I had used most of these papers on this card we improvised and I now also have a turtle card ..... lol.

60's Tilda

This card features the new 60's Tilda from the Yummy for the Tummy collection available at Magnolia Stamps US.

I used the sketch at Midnight Madness and the theme of buttons from Magnolia Down Under for this card. Be sure to check out Midnight Madness, they are having a HUGE giveaway!!

I used four different DP for this card, cut out squares and then layered them on top of other squares. I added polka dot ribbon and buttons with polka dots along with plain ones. I added two polka dotted ribbons in the corner. Tilda is also sitting on polka dots.

I colored Tilda using Copics and decided that with these colors she needed to be a red head. I just love red heads!! Here is a close up.
For the inside I used the same sketch and placed squares on both sides and added a mat for journaling.

Whiff of Joy

This card was made using the sketch at Whiff of Joy and using Willow with Lantern. She is a new stamp for me and this is the first time she has been inked. I just love her flowing dress and the way she comes together.

I made the card using Christmas papers but with a few alterations. Instead of coloring her dress I stamped it onto paper, cut it out and put it in place. I colored everything else.

I followed the sketch except I moved the sentiment, I just couldn't make it work to my satisfaction. I added some fabric roses from my stash and some ribbon from Close to My Heart. I colored her using Copics. Here is a close up.

The inside of the card uses the same papers and a small matting of pointsetta paper across the top. The left side of the card remains undecorated.

Oops Tilda

Happy Sunday everyone.

I made this card for three challenges:

• Friday Sketchers - sketch
• Just Magnolia - handmade flowers
• Magnolia-licious Highlites - Easel card

I just love this easel card, it makes a really nice card that can be shown standing up. This is my first inking of Oops Tilda from the Yummy for your tummy collection and I just love her, she reminds me of the little girl from the older Campbell's soups commercials. She is available over at Magnolia Stamps, here is a direct link.

I added some lace on the backside of my circles for decoration and then cut out flowers using my Cricut in various sizes. I added a pearl brad for the center of the flower.


Here is a close up of Tilda. As you can see from the shadow on the left of Tilda I added some dimension to make her pop. I added a sentiment from WOJ's summer collection.

I colored her using my Copics and also stamped her on some green and red paper, cut out and assembled her dress.


To go with the sentiment I had a piece of border paper with candy canes at the very bottom. I cut this out and placed it on the bottom of the easel. I sanded the paper for that old timey look.

Winter tree

At Scrappy frogs the DT was asked to create a project with a tree on it. It is tougher than it sounds. I walked around my craft room, even colored a few stamps that I have that are trees and just could not get the look I was trying for.

Last winter, the first snow, I took a picture of the branches in my yard and I just love this picture. It has been so long since using something on a project that was not stamped and colored I thought I could use a change. Here is my creation.

I take my pictures outside and you'll notice a shade across the card, that is from the same tree that this pic came from. I used the aged function in Jasc paint shop pro to get the weathered look and really like the affect that it has on this pic.

The dp is Magic of the season made especially for Hobby Lobby. It's kind of a vintage looking paper set in reds, cremes and blacks which is another one of my favorite color combos. I added a couple of flowers, brads and ribbon from my stash to embellish the card.

For the inside of the card I used a stamp from stampin up. I thought it was perfect since I think this is a thing of beauty.Thanks for stopping by and visiting and would love to hear from you.
